White teeth, with their pearly bright sheen, cannot be compared to any other accessory used for beautification. Not only do white teeth boost the confidence level of the individuals, but add to the charisma and the aura of their personalities. We all have to go through the much irritating process of teething to get our first set of temporary or milk teeth. These teeth in the later years of our childhood are replaced gradually by, the permanent set of teeth that is to remain with us for the many years of life to come.

The strength of these teeth depends on, how effectively we manage our dental care. While we are young, the enamel or the visible part of our teeth is covered with a protective layer, which also makes the teeth of children appear whiter and brighter. However, this protective layer gives away to the pressure exerted on the teeth on daily basis, many times a day. With the protective layer disintegrating, the teeth become prone to cavities, discoloration and stains, which spoil the look of once gleaming teeth.

With most of us combatting the yellowness of the teeth, there are others who are plagued by the sever discoloration of the teeth as well. However, the advancement of technology has help facilitate the medical science to come up with treatments for what seems impossible to cure. Even in dentistry, many methods have been developed to eradicate the stains from the teeth.

One such whitening system is that of the dental bleaching treatment. The implementation of this procedure involves the use of a strong bleaching compound, which is applied to the surface of the teeth and later a laser beam is introduced on applied mixture. The ions released during this chemical process penetrate deep into the dentin, which is where most of the stains, dirt and plaque dwell. The dentin is then cleared of the impurities settled there, which gives an instant shine to the teeth, which is visible immediately after the whitening treatment.

Another method fast gaining popularity among those seeking oral care, is the use of ‘veneer treatment’. Veneers, as understood by the name are the specially designed, thin strips made of plastic or porcelain, which tend to give a covering to an individual’s teeth. Veneers are classified into two groups, namely, the porcelain veneers and the composite veneers. Developing the porcelain veneers is a time consuming process that requires visiting the dentists several times in order to get a customized mold developed, according to one’s alignment of teeth and jaws. The composite veneers on the other hand can be created by the dentist in a single appointment, which is the reason they are sometimes also referred to as, direct veneers.
